Dirty Hands Project Announces 2026 Mindfulness Grant Winners

The Dirty Hands Project is proud to announce the recipients of its inaugural Mindfulness Grant Program and Founders Community Action Award, supporting schools and organizations dedicated to mental wellness, mindfulness, and outdoor connection.

These impactful projects reflect a shared mission: creating meaningful spaces where individuals, especially young people can slow down, reflect, and build emotional resilience through nature-based experiences.

Empowering Schools & Communities Through Mindfulness

Ipswich Middle/High School – “Voices in the Garden” ($15,000)

Ipswich Middle School has been awarded $15,000 for its project, “Voices in the Garden.” This initiative will establish a dedicated outdoor space designed to help students connect with nature while developing mindfulness and emotional awareness.

The garden will serve as a peaceful environment for reflection, creativity, and learning—supporting stress reduction, resilience, and a stronger sense of community among students.

North Shore / Plaistow YMCA – “Mud Kitchen” ($5,000)

The YMCA of the North Shore / Plaistow Community YMCA received a $5,000 grant to support its “Mud Kitchen” project. This hands-on outdoor learning space will encourage children to explore creativity, teamwork, and sensory play through nature-based activities. By combining play with mindfulness and outdoor engagement, the Mud Kitchen will provide a safe and supportive environment where children can develop confidence, curiosity, and emotional well-being.

Thomson Elementary School – “Ty’s Thomson Tiger Quiet Garden” ($5,000)

Thomson Elementary School has been awarded $5,000 for “Ty’s Thomson Tiger Quiet Garden.”

This calming space will give students the opportunity to pause, reflect, and practice mindfulness during the school day. Designed to promote mental wellness, the garden provides a natural environment where students can decompress and reconnect.

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School – “Enriching Ty’s Trail” ($15,000)

The Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School has been selected as the recipient of the inaugural Founders Community Action Award, receiving $15,000 for “Enriching Ty’s Trail.”

This project will enhance a trail focused on reflection, mindfulness, and community connection. It represents a powerful step toward fostering mental health awareness and creating a space where individuals can walk, reflect, and support their overall well-being.
